baconnaise...JUST BUY A GREEN 1TB FOR 92 DAYS AGO.... DROP TOO FAST...
Got a couple of these from Amazon and they work fine. Good price. I think I paid $110 each.
...and if you wait another 92 days the 2 TB will be free after rebate. Sucks to be you.
Why would you prefer Amazon? Newegg ships and delivers faster than any other online merchant I have ever dealt with.
tax in california kills, that's why amazon might be better.
also Free 2 day shipping with prime account. What #5 said no tax in cali
Have two of these - been using them in a mirror with no probs for about 5 months or so...great drives.
The site stated:
Cache 32MB, not 64MB...
#4 I perfer Amazon as I have a $50 GC and 3% cash back on balance on my Amazon CC. Thanks for listing Amazon.com deal too.
FYI: Ben states that this is the 64MB buffer WD15EARS model but the link takes you to the 32MB buffer WD15EADS model. The WD15EARS model not only has more buffer memory but it also uses a larger sector size of 4K, making them incompatible with Windows XP without taking extra steps to force compatibility. For newer OS's the new 4K sectors will allow more files to be stored in the same amount of space. The correct link for the WD15EARS drive is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136513 and the price is $119.99. The Amazon link is http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Intellipower-WD15EARS-Frustration-Free/dp/B002ZCXJZE/ref=s11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1264829240&sr=8-1 and is $119.99 as well
Also you have to remember customer service is good at Amazon as well, for returns and what not
Is green the low or high end of the range?
Waiting Green 2TB at this price...
See http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3691
for why the 4k is happening. Certain partitioning schemes work better than others, and you'll need to be careful if you're cloning to this drive.
WD has a utility called WD Align for setting this up with Windows XP systems.
I have one that runs very quiet and cool even after hours of use.
I have this, good for storage. Green is low power and idles, so don't buy it for performance, buy it as a secondary drive #12.
Anyone know the RPM on this one?
#12 - green is the low power version... think green for environment... blue is regular... black is performance... think black AMD processor...

So the average sale price for a 1.5TB is down a little but up for the 1TB. Maybe not down much, but sales seem more frequent on 'em now.
Green RPM is 5400 #17, though it doesn't matter much if at all for supplimental storage purposes, though the reduced heat makes it better in a passive external enclosure. The performance isn't all that bad though, if contrasting against prior generations with lower platter density.
