Ends today. Newegg has the Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB IntelliPower 64MB WD30EZRX SATA III Hard Drive for $140 with free shipping. Features a SATA 6Gb/s interface, 64MB cache, and a 5400 spindle speed.
If I'm correct, SSD just dropped below $1/GB so we're looking at about a 16 to 1 ratio.
I remember when iPods were about to go SSD and people scoffed. Now, they are moving into Laptops in a big way and I suspect will take over the laptop market given the ease of using the cloud or home transfers. My 3TB home storage is still a long way from going SSD, $120 vs $3000. But for a main OS drive, a 128MB SSD is probably a good approach. I'd just like to see them in 3.5" form factor.
I wonder if spindle storage manufactures can hold the same prices until the end of year..
It's so much pleasant to see Price History of SSDs now
