Aahh, I remember back in a day the 2TB version went for $69, wait a few weeks, this one will be at that price or lower.....
#1, you may wait until next Thanksgiving.
Bought same one for 90 bucks couple months ago from newegg. No problems so far. bought another one today for 80 bucks woo hoo
"...backwards compatible with USB 1" Ouch. If you don't have USB 2.0, it will be painful to use 1.5TB of disk space.
#1: I think that you are right. The new 3.0 usb are coming out therefore they are going to rid of the 2.0 usb. Supposedly, the 3.0 usb transfer rate is either as fast or faster than FIREWIRE.

I am in no hurry to purchase the 1.5TB. I have bought one 1 year ago for $139 ( tax included), OUCH! No complaint with Western Digital. I am going to wait for the price drop which will not be too long
#2; The wait will not be that long, my friend.
I agree with #1 and #5... You might benefit from waiting... That is if you can wait...
