IMO, Western Digital makes the best external drives. The "My Book" line is very dependable.

I'm g;ad #1 thins WD makes the best external drives. I had two of two fail. Apparently WD doesn't expect them to last very long since they only give a one-year warranty.

The fact that Dell is selling it makes it a horrible deal. I'm a fan of WD, never had one fail me, but Dell is a nightmare to deal with and not worth the money you would save.

Just picked this up last week at Sam's Club for $100 before sales tax. Nice drive. FAT 32 formatted so files need to be <4 GB. Case has a glossy finish so a bit of a dust/fingerprint magnet. Considered a Seagate since Best Buy had a 1TB for same price, but after reading a lot of reliability concerns with Seagate, went with WD instead. Great price considering an internal 1TB drive is hovering at $100 too (and to buy an external enclosure would be about $30).

I am in the market for one and almost pulled the trigger but then I remember how Dell burp over so many people for Christmas 2007 on the 8800GT deal (I was one of them).

So burp Dell, I basically only trust Newegg now.
