#1 - good thing you haven't had any problems since your warranty has expired.

the auto power off with your computer is a nice feature if you keep the drive in an uneasy to reach place.

No warranty needed for these. WD hard drives are best. No doubt.

I think it has a cooling fan, which will enhance its durability. That's why My Book is more expensive than, say, Cavalry. But if you don't mean to keep the external hard drive turned on most of time, I think you don't need to pay more for a hard drive with cooling fan installed.

I have this. It works fine, but I wish there was a manual power switch.

#5 - WD MyBook Studio has what you want. The essential is their low-end MyBook version.

#10 - I think you're looking for the MyBook Mirror edition with 2 swappable spots. Or the WD Sharespace which is a NAS with 4 spots.

Looks pretty expensive given that prices for HDs are coming down fast. Would expect to go lower this Christmas to draw more customers.

Now I've had 2 out of 2 WD essentials fail on me only a little outside of the one year warranty. I still like the WD drives though mostly for their look and got a home edition and studio edition to replace them with a 3 and 5 year warranty respectively. If you get the essential drives, don't be surprised when you're ***ed out one year six months later. Look up "mybook" with "three clicks" or "click of death" if you think it's uncommon for these to last less than 2 years.

I got the 500GB version of this so I could image my Hard Drive on my work laptop so I could upgrade it. It worked great and was only $99.
