Man this has bad reviews at Amazon. Does it really block you from distributing media files over your home network (which is the only thing I can see needing 1TB for at home.) And is there any easy way around that (the Amazon reviews seem to say it's a software issue)?

The block only occurs if you use the bundled software for networking. the software is NOT required. That being said though, having no USB interface is a HUGE minus...bacon wouldn't have been hard to just add a USB interface in the enclosure. What a shame....I wonder if the network performance is decent considering that its gigabit capable.

That's of no use for anyone needing expansion now though and could be said for anything.

This drive uses DRM and blocks all the good media files. This thing is a useless hunk o baconnaise. You can disguise or rename your files but I won't buy anything from WD till they get rid of the police crap

Don't install the WD software - just use windows explorer and you'll be fine. The software doesn't have anything worth needing it for anyways.
