Yes, the case is plastic and can be pop open with a knife or a flat screwdriver. No screws actually on the case. Be aware that some of these WD external drives have a smaller cache than their notebook specific models, so it may only be 2MB cache instead of 8 or 16MB on their performance models meant for high end notebooks. It is still usable if you don't mind the slower read speed. This particular model is SATA interface, so make sure your notebook has SATA controller.

While the Elite version is indeed 5 years, this one is the standard My Passport, and I've only seen them with a 3 year warranty. You have a link to support your claim?

So you have to be very careful not to damage the case when cracking the edges open to extract the drive. So incase the drive do need repair, you slip it back into the plastic case carefully and hide the tamperin marks Smile

By the time these drives mess up, solid state will be popular and you'll be laughed at for using outdated stuff like those zip drives. 100 MB, WOW =)... what? 750 MB CDS?

Am leaving the country soon. Do I have to send in a photo with this or do I just add one to it when I get it?

Very nice hard drive works awesome, although I find my outside case gets scratched easy.
