Tiger Direct has the Western Digital Red WD30EFRX 3TB SATA3 64MB Cache 3.5" Internal HDD for $170 - $30 rebate [Exp 12/16] = $140 with free shipping. Features a 6.0Gb/s SATA interface, 3.5" form factor, and is designed and tested for 1-5 bay NAS systems.
Limit 1 rebate for a drive that's designed to run in RAID...lol.
To #1, if you get a good drive out of the box they are pretty solid in a NAS environment both for performance and power. The problem is, the initial defect rates are pretty high so it's a bit of crapshoot at this point.
anyone had "real world" experience with these reds? or is it just an marketing scheme?
Blue and Green = 2 year warranty
Red = 3 year warranty
Black = 5 year warranty

Pretty sure that there are rotational speed differences between some of the models also.
Are these usable as regular non-NAS drives?
I've been running 2 of these in a home server for the past month. No complaints. Cool and quiet.
