NCIX has the Western Digital Red WD30EFRX 3TB SATA3 64MB Cache 3.5" Internal HDD for $160 with free shipping. Features a 6.0Gb/s SATA interface, 3.5" form factor, and is designed and tested for 1-5 bay NAS systems.
The claim is that it's made for NAS type applications. What this means from a quility/functionality level, I don't know. Are all the NAS boxes loaded with Greens having issues? Need a white paper to address this. Ok, a Red paper.
Western Digital "Red" drives implement time-limited error recovery (TLER) to eliminate time-out RAID5 drive drop-outs. Sure many times you can get away with Green drives but they are more prone to appearing to have failed to a hardware RAID controller and Green drives have a shorter warranty (2yrs vs 3yrs). The cost difference is minimal so if I were building a new RAID array I'd use Red drives but that doesn't mean that I'd spend the money replacing drives in existing RAID arrays.
Using the last 9 years of sweet spot hard drive price per GB, this hard drive should be $80 ($78.39) #$&*# you WD.
They're not exactly forthcoming with information on the warranty but it looks like it's 1 year only. Pass.
The reviews are horrid
3 years on the red

Red? What is WD red and how does it compare? When I think red, I think "Stop, danger, go away!"
That's not what I think when I see a cute girl in a little red dress.

^ probably means they disabled or extended the timeout period for TLER, since it causes problems for RAID arrays.
