All right, what am I missing? It's twice as fast as a normal drive but with only 150 gigs, why is this desirable?

#9 If you don't know, then stay at your less-than-minimum wage job at Burger King.

    Also, #9

7200 x 2 does not equal 10,000. #10 is right, you really must work at Burger King. Actually I bet you get fired in the next week when someone asks for a drink twice the size as the 16oz drink and you give them a child's cup.

#9 Speed = Acess time, So if there is less access time to access your software then your apps will run quicker, using another slower drive for storage, or more than one of these drives then you will notice what the rave is all about with the 10k drives.

hope it was a litter clearer

This drive is a significant improvement over the Raptor. You will definitely notice the performance boost, esp. in faster windows boot. But it is loud and runs hot.

and the Seagate 1.5TB is almost as fast due to its high density platters. To add insult to injury, you'd get 10x the storage with the Seagate

I'm not sure #14 if the Seagate is as fast? Can you please provide proof

#13, the Velociraptor runs faster, cooler, and quieter compared to the previous generations Raptors. It is the first 10K RPM HDD that SilentPCReview has recommended.

Here's a solution that's almost as fast for about 1/2 the price.

    Buy a 500GB 7200 RPM SATA drive.
Create a partition at the begining of the drive that is only 150GB in size (same size as this drive).

Your transfer rate will be faster due to the higher density of the current 7200 RPM 500GB drives.
Your Average seek time will be about the same (since you are only using 1/3 of the drive there is less distance to seek.)

Only the track to track seek time will be slower.

The begining of the drive has the highest transfer rate, so by using one 1/3 of the drive you will be using the fastest 1/3.

You could also create a 350 GB partion on the rest of the drive and put all junk you rarely use on it.
