Do I have any need for this device if I have a networked XBOX, and I'm not into any crazy video pirating?

#1 I use it to play FLAC (uncompressed audio) files ripped from CDs that I bought and paid for. Can your xbox play flac?

For those interested these are great little tiny media players. The will play most audio formats, DVD rips including ISOs, and Blu-Ray rips including ISOs.

I don't think you do, #1. However, I myself just got one, and like it a lot. It's silent and very small. It's great if you watch a lot of downloaded video. Though you might find it useful if you wanted to extend your media to other TVs in your house without moving your Xbox all the time.

    #3 pretty much nailed it.

#2, FLAC shmack. Just get a cheapo cable to hook your Ipod up to your receiver. However, playing ISOs is kinda nice, but not $109 nice.

These are great! I have generation one and it plays mostly everything I throw at it. I don't need to burn DVDs any more. Just put the ripped ISO files in this and it plays 'em. Also, it will play AVCHD (.mts) files from my Panasonic ZS3 camera perfectly. I'm thinking of buying the WD TV Live so I can use my network.

These wouldn't be so bad on business trips if more hotels were rolling out HDTVs like Marriott. I hate going to a hotel where the TV set is from the 90's. And I think that the primary purpose of having one of these is for travel.

#7: The primary purpose of this is definitely not for travel. People primarily use these in their homes.

I got 2 xbox 360 and getting them to play any media is a chore. You need wire to the location that you want to play your media if not then you will have to spend $100 for the wireless adapter (this alone is equal this player price) then your HAVE TO LOG IN YOUR ACCOUNT!@@@#! The damn update is already IN THE xbox why protect it like national secret.@#@$#.

Then I also got the WDTV and havent those xbox except when I want to play games. I save lot of electricity since it got use a lot in my household from the wife watch her drama series to the kid with his collection.....10watt vs 175 watts...then xbox wont play anything outhere. I can only get it to play 1/2 of my movies. The WDTV is not perfect but it play over 90% of those.

    NO COMPARISON.

Some of these gadgets require a main computer to do the heavy lifting; all of the video decoding. Some are standalone units that can do both the decoding and the display.

For example, I have a NetGear Digital Entertainer Live that requires the video format be perfect and presized to the correct screen dimensions OR it needs your computer on standby to convert it on-the-fly. It can play 1080 or 720 but it needs to be precisely preformatted beforehand. I do not want to transcode everything I already have.

I also have an XBOX 1 running XBMC that plays dang well anything. It's played every video format I've ever thrown at it and it can handle the weirdest video dimensions without a complaint. It rocks but then it only plays up to 540i.

I'd like a standalone box that can play just about anything I throw at it that goes up to 1080p. Is this the one?

Guess they are having a little issue with their web site:

Please note: Online ordering is temporarily unavailable until Saturday 6:45 PM EST (in 2 hour(s) and 6 minutes). Feel free to browse our site and add items to your cart or wishlist. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patronage.

Anyone looking at this needs to check out the Patriot Box Office. CircutCity currently has is for $119-$35 rebate plus 10% Bing Cashback shipped free. The puts it at about $73 and it includes the ability to house a 2.5 HDD and includes wifi adapter. Good reviews as well.

Yes this is full HD with no PC needed. It's played everything I've tried to play with it. I also have a modded Xbox1 but it's really clunky solution compared to this thing.
