#20 I follow.... That part was my opinion. WD was way too slow. It was just disappointing.
If it works for you, great- I only have Jpegs and WMV format to play. So if that is all anyone care's for... this isn't worth it. They should probably try the cheaper version that doesn't come with the HDMI port and save $30.
Now, back to the ISO files- if you know of any media player that will play ISO files off a USB, please let us know. (aside from that Asus you posted). No hard feelings- I was just giving my opinion.
Note that I saw this at my local Sam's Club (Las Vegas) on Monday for $99. It shows on their web site for $119, though, so YMMV.
#21 I play iso files via USB with this device.
#23 Really? Wouldn't play it on mine! Went ahead and returned it to Best Buy.... crap.
Are you talking about a thumb drive? I have not tried from a thumb drive, but before I posted I went and played an iso from a little USB powered hard drive I have for the WD HD Live. Works great.
I should say that I have installed two firmware updates since I bought this a month or two ago. Maybe they fixed an issue since you tried it. They seem to be actively improving this thing. Competition is definitely driving these companies to improve their products. Which is great.
My 1st and probably only post here...Good product works great over ethernet, never uses usb except for a firmware reflash, paid 89 for it back in late nov or december @ bbuy. Have it tied into my windows xp repository and it just works...
Take care
#24 I haven't tried a thumbdrive but it playes ISOs including Blu-Ray ISOs off of a USB hard drive just fine.
I have 3 of these now and they work well. they play everything including ISO's that I have on a NAS sitting on my network.
You can put up Playon and get access to Hulu, Netflix, etc. works very well but takes a long pause before it starts.
Win7 Media Center is also accessible so DVR function is working on all 3 sets that I have configured in. (go to WD's site and it tells you how to configure)
I also have ASUS O play and prefer WD's unit. It's easier to work with and gives you more access via media servers. Pandora is definitely a plus as well.
I've been working on HT solutions for a long time and this seems to be the first real viable solution for close to a hundred bucks.
I agree that WD is listening and trying to add desirable features via firmware.
just my 2 cents
