Key thing (IMHO) about this and the WD TV is that they can play files directly from SMB shares so you don't have to go through all that DLNA crap. I think this device supports NFS as well, as do the WD TV players with http://wdlxtv.com/ firmware.
I just got one of these new models. I had no idea about the massive improvements they made to the OS. Even though the old devices are still good this new one is amazing in terms of how polished the interface is now.
