CONSUMER ALERT: This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009, to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the Nation's transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the Commission's digital television website at: www.dtv.gov. (En Español) ›

#5 - Not unless you like getting local channels only. Remember those bunny-ear antennas? Basically, if you use those today, then this will affect you come 2009.

It means it doesn't have a digital HD tuner. This is not an issue if you use a cable box. Here's is what the description says.

HD-Ready: Fully capable of high-definition display when connected to an optional HDTV source (over-the-air, satellite or digital-cable set-top box).

Ahh. That makes sense. I don't know anyone that can plug their tv into the wall and get HD anyway.. how would we DVR stuff?

I would "personally" wait for the new model that's coming out soon.
The "TX-47F430S", it's listed on pre-order from a famous online retailer that starts with "A" (sorry I don't know Ben's policy on linking other sites) for $1800, no tax, free shipping.

It has both digital and analog tuners built in, usb, 4 HDMI connectors, etc, etc.

I believe BestBuy is trying to off load the current model in preparation for the "TX-47F430S" coming into the stores in the next month or so.

"If" that is the case, BestBuy, "IMO", should lower the price more on the current model to be fair to the customers.

USB is for firmware upgrades to the TV I believe.
If the TV have flaws on the firmware/chip level, they "might" be able to issue new firmware to address the issue.
In which case you can download the firmware to a USB thumb drive and update the firmware on the TV yourself.
Of course, you take your chances because sometimes you might fry your TV if:
      A. You don't know what you're doing
      or
      B. The company issued you a bad firmware
      or
      C. Any other reason.
