By and large, if you have not done much reading on radar detectors, the two that seem to get the consensus highest ratings are the Valentine One or the Escort 8500/9500. Car and Driver (www.caranddriver.com) magazine does testing, as do some other sites such as www.radartest.com.

Detectors don't really work, you might get lucky and detect a stray signal.
