GoHardDrive.com has the White Label WL1000GSA3272 1TB 16MB Cache 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive for $55 with free shipping. This brand new drive is covered by a one year warranty and features a SATA300 interface.
White label hard drives are NOT brand new. A white label hard drive is a drive that has failed, and has been repaired by some third party. Since the company that repaired it has no connection to the manufacturer they have to remove the original label and put a white label on it.
It's basically refurbished, but repaired by a stranger, and most refurbished products where never actually broken in the first place while these are guaranteed to have been broken and repaired (otherwise they could just resell it with the original label).
I bought one of these a few weeks ago and returned it because the transfer speed was terrible. While copying another disk to this one, the transfer speed dropped to under 8 mb/s. A normal copy speed should be in the 60 - 70 mb/s for a 7200 rpm drive for big files. Mine was garbage but I took a chance because they look identical to WD Black drives.
I went to NewEgg and bought a 1 TB WD Black drive for $100 and am happy now. At least GoHardDrive.com was quick about crediting back my payment.
Sure, why not.. ditch all the name brands and go for this one at the same price.
