If you're a student (or not) with a working .edu email address and don't have a bias against using Microsoft products, then Windows 7 can be yours for $30. They're offering upgrade versions of both Home Premium and Professional for that price. In order to see Professional, you'll have to: Enter in your .edu email address, click the link in the confirmation email, and finally click on where it says "Need to join your school's network domain?".

If you select "custom installation" you should be able to do a fresh install.

If you need to be a student, people who are interested in attending school in australia can get a student email. Just check out australia.edu.

It looks like a great country to be a college student Wink

#48, seem like the only thing Ultimate adds is:

-protect data on your PC and portable storage devices against loss or theft with BitLocker.

-Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35 languages.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare-editions/default.aspx

if thats the only differences then Professional is fine for me.

#41, it seems we can only buy the Home Premium Upgrade version.

For those who are running 32-bit Windows, consider this:
    http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/41531554-d5ef-4f2c-8fb9-149bdc5c8a701033.mspx

It seems upgrading from 32-bit Windows needs a little trick...

#24 i'm sure it's an iso. just like Ultimate Steal deal.

#26 that list is not complete. Univ of California's aren't listed but do qualify. (listed is Cal State Univ, which is different)

#42, no proof, but I have a feeling the $30 won't expire. Just like the Ultimate Steal for Office 2007. But if you are going to buy it anyways, might as well get it now. It won't get cheaper than $30.

#20 - It's both Professional and Home Premium. Read the whole description next time. Or better yet, stop being a moron.

I just bought it, it's a great deal. Had preordered it before when it was half off at $49 but this is better and I get professional too.

i have a valid .edu address so it wasn't an issue for me...but i read on another forum that you can sign up for a free email address at australia.edu. some people had been successfully using it for this deal.

i ordered mine today...just waiting until 10/22/09 when it's released!
