Microsoft is now offering the Windows 8 Consumer Preview for $0 downloaded. The download is about 2GB. Here are some reviews from The Verge, Mashable, Gizmodo, Engadget, PCWorld and CNET.
If I install the Windows Beta do I need to reformat and reinstall if I purchase a copy once it starts selling to the public next yea or can I just enter my key code and all is good with the first install?
When you run the Win8 Consumer Preview Setup app to check a PC and exit, it doesn't even get rid of 15MB of leftover temp folder files with no "install", no links, no nothing to indicate they left garbage behind on your HDD.
#7 it probably will keep working as long as you're happy with it. It will get no upgrades, no patches and no support after the product launch. Just like any other B release.
link not working? redirects me back to the main bensbargains page
Working for me (downloading now).
working now for me too, oh well
Worked for me, try again

How long does it last, 1 year license?
nice job micro$oft... now we can all use "tiles" and scroll like mad to see a list of apps, i guess i'll be sticking w/win 7 for now, epic fail
Love the experience. Installed on a VM like a charm.
No Mediacenter. Looks like I'll be leaving the Windows environment as my current equipment ages.
Is there anything better? Last time I checked, nothing worked on that thing.

mcnabney: could have sworn that there was media center there. In fact one of the tiles was media center.
Windows 8 appears to me... to be meant for tablets, clearly. Once you click past that start up square interface its just like Windows 7 behind it.
Media Center will be in the final release http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKC9LHAarw0
Not a fan of Windows 7 this will likely be worse! XP sill the best IMHO...
remembering windows vista still gives me the creeps.
#12, there is probably a time limit on it.
