Woot! is currently having a Woot-Off! Also includes their Kids.woot! and Wine.woot! sites. During a Woot-Off!, a new product is launched immediately after the sellout of the previous deal, and there's a 12-hour maximum on any product that does not sell out. Keep an eye out for the elusive Bag-of-Crap (BOC), where you get 3 random products for $8 shipped, anything from a thimble to an anvil to an HDTV.

I heard about someone who got a Dyson vacuum cleaner in a BOC. But it's probably an urban legend or the person was someone who worked for/was affiliated with the company.

    What a scheme, it's a lottery ripoff.

I heard some guy got a VHS tape full of weird imagery. A few days after watching the tape, he found a lump. He went through 7 years of alternating treatments and remissions, and finally DIED from watching that cursed cassette!

I've gotten some pretty cool stuff in their bag-o-crap... HDMI cable, 2 GB flash drives, etc... Of course, I got a screaming monkey once as well, and it scares the hell out of the dog.

I've gotten two BOCs in my day:

One had a baby blanket, knockoff slinky, a camera tripod that's about three inches tall, a camera case, and one or two other little things.

The other had two different full size camera tripods, a set of computer speakers with sub, one of those outdoor weather station things, and more.

Neither had anything I'd ever really use, but both definitely "worth" the $8 they cost me.

I received a whole lot of, what I thought, were goofball items.

Then came Christmas, and for whatever reason the frilly pink purse, random toys and ornaments turned out to be amazingly appropriate gifts for my nieces! They strutted around in style like I hunted for the perfect gifts for months.

I got an ornament that had 512MB memory and displayed digital pictures too. That was a great Mom gift.

#9, you realize that the bag of crap contains crap items, right? So you knowingly gave your loved ones crap for Christmas!

since woot was purchased by amazon, the boc isn't really random anymore, it's basically all the same, and the good items no longer really exist.

I've gotten 7 bags of crap over the past few years. They used to contain returned items from buy.com. Electronics, gadgets, etc. Some broken, many in perfect shape but open boxes. Each of the first few I got contained over $100 worth of stuff. but I don't buy them anymore, as they aren't usually worth even the 8 bucks now. Usually you'll get stuff you wouldn't take for free, and nothing worth any money.

The interesting part is not knowing what you'll get. For many, that still may be worth the 8 bucks. It's still tough to get one anyway.
