Geeks.com has the refurbished Xbox 360 Platinum System (with 20GB Hard Drive) for $240 + $11 shipping = $251 shipped. Xbox 360 Platinum includes system with hardrive, headset, and one wireless controller. Appears to be a non-HDMI version. [BizRate]
Yeah my pre HDMI one bit the dust about 18 months in. They refurbed it back to me and it started scratching all my games in the same spot on each of them.... no lie. Ruining GTA in less than an hour right out of the box!
360 is by far the best system so I traded in that piece one and just forked up the different for a Arcade version and slapped my old hard drive into it. HDMI and Hard Drive... and no problems yet. Runs faster too!
Thanks #10 for your fanboy insight. I will only consider half your post really relevant. Next time leave bias 'best' out of it so your credibility doesn't churn.
How many minutes will it take to get the red ring of death?
The only reason people get the red ring of death is due to user incompetence. People leave things sitting on top of the console and it can overheat. If you use the product like it is meant to be used, then you will never have a problem. Damn, people are so stupid.
True #17, I've played my 360 for about 2 years now, and I've never experienced any RROD problems. On the other hand, the tray won't eject properly when the system is vertical, or when the drive tray doesn't contain a game. A minor annoyance, but a defect nonetheless.
@#17, The one I'm currently waiting on a return box for (2 weeks and counting) has been stored in a cool dry area with constant air flow. I played it perhaps 10 hours a week and then only 3-4 at most in one sitting. I did make the mistake of setting it vertical and scratched a game pretty badly within 2 hours of play.
None of these would be considered user incompetence and it still didn't last a year. Substandard heat sinks and cheap soldering coupled with bad internal design is why they fail 2/5 of the time.
Looks to be perfect for those of us that do not have HD.
Must be my first...i mean 2nd xbox that broke
Component works well on "1080p" as well though...
This is a deal. Find out about warranty though...
For non-HDMI 360s, component works on 1080p for games, but 1080i for movies. It also does not upscale regular DVDs.
VGA works for 1080p on everything, though and does upscale regular DVDs.
does hdmi upscale dvds?
The words refurbished and xbox are not something you want to hear together. Even the new ones are risky enough of breaking.
I would NOT buy one without the HDMI. That's old hardware. I lost 3 of them in a year. Had the HDMI version for like 9 months now.
Pre red-ringed to save you time so you don't have to worry about playing games.

If my xbox scratched my games I would be so pissed.

90 day warranty scares me.
My local fry's has these on the shelf next to the regular 360's for $250 as well.
the xbox 360s in my neighborhood have their own gangs and beat up on little kids, stealing their lunch money. i hate xbox 360.
