Don't look at this as purchasing a refurbished item, look at it as purchasing a bunch of refurbished items.

#1 - call them "previously broken" It has a much better sound to it than "refurbished"

Who cares if it's refurbished? All electronics merchandise is refurbed now, be it the iphone, hdtvs, who cares? It probably has the same warranty.

Read the reviews of the 360 on Amazon. Microsoft has shipped "refurbished" systems that don't work right out of the box.

Check the warranty cause even the new ones seem to break in 6-9 months.

At least these have already experienced the Red Ring of Death for the first time. We will see if the fixes will hold. You can be a guinea pig/lab rat for only $269. Make a contribution to Xbox science today.

Stay the hell away from eCost. They are crooks, and if you have any problems they go out of their way to be unhelpful. You'll be lucky if you can understand the customer service people, and they've been coached to say NO to every question.

#7, very little because they replace a bunch of hardware when people get the RROD. There was some kind of issue with the cpu heatsinks and how it was warping parts on the motherboard.. so I'm guessing they replace your mobo (if it's bad), or they replace the heatsinks if the damage is not permanent.
Any 360 manufactured July 07 and after will NOT have this problem.. the 360 Elite (the black one) never has the problem (at least not to my knowledge).

Thanks #9. I've heard some negative things about ecost.com, so I guess I'll follow #10's advice and wait for a new one to come down in price.

it doesn't carry the same warranty, that is why the extra money is worth it.

Why oh why would you want to buy an 360 that's been refurb-ed? Since the 360 are already having mega problems with their RROD issues. Why would you spend $260 on a refurb item and take risks on buying someone's crap console and make it your problems? Spend the extra 100 buck and get a new 360. Or just buy the PS3 (from Sony store for $300 after credit card deal) or the Wii to save you some hassles? Jeez.... Ben....

haha some of you talk like every 360 has tons of problems and are buggy and everyones 360 is failing on them. You do realize that the people who post on the internet about its problems are basically the only people with problems right? People who DO NOT experience problems rarely post, since (duh!) they aren't having any problems! I got mine for Christmas LAST year (2006) and mine has not had any problems, minus the occasional (once every couple months) freeze. If I could say the same for my computer I'd be a happy camper.
