i am ps3 gamer and when i went to xbox guy's house it was pretty cool that they have like voicemessages you can send to ppl and the whole xbox live seems a good amount cooler than ps3 i think its worth $3 per month. i dont know if gold is the one you need there are different tiers knowing microsoft u probably need even more than this 2 b uber kewl

#6 XBOX comes with silver service for free. This does not allow you to play online, just enables internet access for game downloads and updates. You only need this (gold) to access all the rest of the live content. There is nothing above this in terms of features.
