Humm... It is a 128-Bit 2Gb DDR3 that’s good, but off on the memory spec a little at 1070 MHz effective, the reference spec’s 1600 effective overall. Half-height isn’t the norm seen for many deals, while needing of the fan is a little bit of a downer. Overall not bad and while $20 rebate many deals of the past had $30!

Just a nice discrete upgrade but with its' TDP of 49W has me thinking for many SFF chassis you’d need a minimum 300W. So this might not be copasetic with many OEM SFF PSU’s, especially if you have other external devices that are drawing on your power supply.

Ok, this is just... strange! So strange I thought I'd talk about it here!

It a GT 640... no biggy right? We’ve all known Nvidia released the first low end Kepler early last June at "it got no love" due mostly to low performance from the DDR3 they straddle it with (most said pathetic especially against 7750 DDR5 that were cheaper). The upside was low power draw, no 6-pin and low heat signature meaning low noise, although as a full size card (as most were released as) that wasn't enough given the performance, it was basically competitive to AMD's previous 6670 GDDR5. Then there's the price which started around $100 when 7750 DDR5 could be found for $85. Even Nvidia cloak it somewhat as not many opening day reviews... Ok, enough history and opening old wounds you say, what strange?

Well I came across this Low-profile dual fan GT 640 unit, and the weird part it an XFX! Yes, XFX... But XFX ceased there AIB relation with Nvidia when they stepped away from Fermi and went with AMD’s RV770 HD 48XX cards. That's what’s strange.... and that's not the only part of my shock it’s $75 –AR $25 and shipping of $7! Check this thing out it's a sweet card! Sure there are 6670 DDR5 Low-profiles out there for the same money, but it a nice offering for the price, especially if you want CUDA Video Conversion for HTPC.
