This is a great fan. I use it to O/C my 805 till around 3.4 to 3.5 Ghz CPU speed.
Before you purchase the fan- you have better chcek out their web site and measure your case, M/B CPu location before you buy. This fan is so big that might cause fitting problem w/ your case. For example it has requirement of the CPU socket location has to be certain distance from power supply and back panel. SO it doesn't fit every case ok. Even it runs very quiet, when you push it to run at full speed ( about 2600-2800RPM ) you will still heard the fan noise - but I believe that's pretty normal..
FYI
just checked newegg, still sold out....man I want to get one
get the cnps9700
Very good heatsink... the deal is so so, try and get one from Ebay you'll save yourself $10 and it's not like used CPU coolers are significantly worse than new ones, since you just let them sit in the PC and let it do its work
I think the Scythe ninja is cheaper recently.
I have two currently used on my home computer and my office computer. I have to say they are cool, as well as, cool. However, the price on these things are still pretty high.
Ha! snagged the 9700 for $45 this weekend
the 9700 is just a larger version. The 9500 is already big. If you have room for the 9700 i suggest instead to go with Thermaltake Big Typhoon . The Typhoon is way better than Zalman and 10 times more quiet. The only reason i got the 9500 was that it was the perfect size for me and it was the next best thing to the Typhoon.
If you do go with the Thermaltake Big Typhoon be aware it is gigantic. Like a mini powersupply.
#11 is correct, the TT big typhoon is the best air on the market now and one of the quietest,
but the zalman looks cool
i have one of these. these are quiet running at low speed. works greats though. even at high speed the minor noise is bearable. it's great that this thing has a speed control. VERY RECOMMENDED.
Would one of these fit into a Dell 8400?
The Zalman products are usually fairly quiet - but at a cost. I've done much research on heatsink and fans when I was looking for parts for my new computer. If you're not going to overclock, or just a mild overclocker, the Zalmans will serve wonders (just make sure your case has the room to fit the Zalman heatsink+fan). But if you're a hardcore overclocker, I'd look elsewhere. In contrast to some of the other favorites (Scythe and Thermalright), Zalman is definitely not even close in comparison in terms of cooling power.
are these quiet enough for out-of-PC use? Was thinking of attaching two of these to my plasma to aid in cooling but wonder how noisy these would be.
If you're even thing about getting this, go for it. Its a great cooler, Zalman makes quality stuff
Very cool fan, kinda big thou ... barely fit in my case
