What does this fit? AMD or Intel
#1: both
I have this cooler and it does work well for me. Very quite at idle and not too noisy when at full throttle. It is a big heatsink and fan but it fits in both an AMD and Intel application. I think I will pick up another. Paid about this same costs before with a rebate from ZipZoomFly several months ago.
Yep, I got 1 from Newegg, too. It worked great to keep my AMD 955 at 47C max during the 10hr CPU stress test and the CPU was oc'ed to 3.8GHz. It's huge and very tall (156mm) so make sure to measure the width of your case before ordering.
i just leave my desktop side covers open, to allow as much air as possible to go around. would you still need this?

#5: yes, you still need a CPU cooler, case open or not.
Plus, with your case open, you won't get the normal airflow through the case. Components like the Hard drives, RAM, and motherboard that don't have their own fans won't be cooled by the case airflow anymore.
If you do leave your case open, you'll likely get more dust inside, and you may see problems with EMI.
#5 depending on your enclosure, your components could be running hotter than if you had it closed like it was designed for. You're disrupting the airflow it was designed to achieve. Not to mention as comp said... you'll probably be gaining a sufficiently larger amount of dust.
#5 and #6 I hope that is a joke! If not, #5 put your side doors on. A case is made and tested with full enclosure for a reason. Instead of air blowing on certain hareware. air needs to pass over all hareware. A case, designed with fans, has vacuum and houses better cooling.
