is it zircon or zirco(M)?
anyway, doing a quick SF of a house, this makes it so easy. plus when a room is filled with furniture, it's hard to measure with a tape. for the price, it's so worth it. i have a stud finder from the same company, it's not 12 years old and still works perfect. quality product!
99.5% accuracy? That seems a little too low...even a 10 foot long room will be measured at 9.95'? That isn't precise enough for me.
#2 - 99.5% accuracy means that the measurement could have an error range of 0.5%. THAT means +/- 0.25%, which means your 10' (120") room could yield a reading from 119.7" to 120.3", or from 9'11.7" to 10'0.3". In other words, your 10' room might read 0.3 inches under or 0.3 inches over 10'. So 99.5% seems fairly accurate to me, though I would trust but verify the manufacturer's claim.
Separately, I think you mean that 9.95' is not accurate enough for you (in agreement with the "true" 10' value). Precision refers to repeatability - the degree to which subsequent measurement are in agreement. Adding digits to the figure (9.95000001') can be used to imply precision or accuracy, but loses meaning as the data set approaches 1.
For some light dinner conversation, see Accuracy and Precision at Wikipedia.
Somebody buy #3 a sorely needed round of drinks.
broke @ 2 day, was super cool day 1.
and #3 you are a dumbass.
Houses are building in REALITY LAND. Building materials are in even lengths, go measure your floor to ceiling right now with 99.9% accuracy, find that it's 7.9887841635846358 feet high, well shucks, you're screwed yokal, how on earth are you going to find a 2X4 with THAT length? Or It's gonna be hard to shave that much off off of an eight foot plank of wood. Or it's gonna be hard to find a can of paint that covers 350.00125345678 SF of surface area instead of 350-400. I've measured countless buildings, and this kind of accuracy is just fine... that is if if continued to work.
Sorry I used "precise" versus "accuracy". I'm ESL
#5 You're retarded. If you measure 7.988 or even 7.80 and can't be smart enough to round to the appropriate distance then please take a long walk off the short pier and only swim back if you have the intelligence to form a coherent and intelligent retort.
As long as this unit can ignore tall furniture (such as armoires) this would be great for figuring out square footage. Though I don't think it would be able to account for it. That and Buy.com has a tendency to sell some pretty cheap (not inexpensive) stuff
Can I use this to measure the length of my doodle? At this point that 0.05% error can only be a good thing for my ego. In a related question, can I blame the 0.05% error if it comes up short?
Does this work in non-rectangular (L-shaped or other odd shapes) rooms as well?
