All the current system configurations are using gigabit- why buy 10/100 to slow it down? I will pass...

I'm still shocked that gigabit prices are still so high...

I just ordered one to use for my internet connected devices, which will free some ports on my router for things that will benefit from gigibit speed. The best thing about this switch is that it is very efficient and can be powered off a USB port on my router, Tivo, WDTV, or Hava, the same devices that will be using it. This will save power and eliminate another power brick in back of my entertainment center which is about maxed out for space and power outlets.

To my knowledge- ASUS 5port Gigabit switch has been as low as $9.99 AR.. 8 port ASUS gigabit has bee as low as $14.99 (AR offer by Microcenter last year)
And ASUS 8 port 10/100 ( ASUS GX1008B) has been as low as $4.99 AR and that's the price I paid for my last 10/100 switch. ( but ASUS GX1008B require AC adapter not powerd by USB)

100mbit this is a waste of time. You WILL notice the speed difference from 100mbit & 1gbit.

You WILL notice a speed difference if you have devices capable of Gigabit speeds, but only if you have a Gigabit through the entire data path. Most laptops, desktops, modems, and almost all internet connected devices are not Gigabit enabled, so putting a Gigabit switch in the mix will do little good. For most people, I would recommend paying a bit more and getting Gigabit because it may benefit you later as you add things like a NAS, but it may not make a difference in your current network speed. For people without much network knowledge, this fact has not been made very clear by some other post.

What this is good for is having a backup switch in case your primary fails. That way if it never fails you didn't have more money tied up in something you'll never use. Same applies to a spare modem, etc.

Don't waste your money on something that you will end up replacing in a month.
