INTRODUCTION -
We just received what is probably the first R600 in the US. - it's the R600-S4201, with the conventional hard drive.
DATA -
U9400 at 1.4GHz, 3GB RAM, 160GB 5400RPM drive, DVD, full keyboard with PGUP/PGDN keys, transflective screen works in the sun, ultrathin brilliant LED 12.1" screen, three USB ports (one is USB/eSATA combined). *THREE YEAR WARRANTY*
NEGATIVES -
No DVI or HDMI, and the worst speaker in the land of laptops. Feels *too* light. DVD drive is 7mm thick, and seems very fragile.
IMPRESSIONS -
It's so light at 1 kg (2.2 pounds or so) that it seems empty. The 45W power supply is about half the size of a pack of cigarettes. Battery lasted 5h 45 minutes on our first trial from full charge. Feels fast, snappy.
CONCLUSION - at $2k it's pricey, in the same range as the Sony TT, etc. But this R600 is the best combination of weight/runtime/performance on the market at this moment.
COMMENT -
Someone has a video online showing this thing flying away under some helium balloons. It doesn't take many. |
