Did want to post this but where... this seemed most logical.
I’m judging a GTS 250 as not a bad card… not great, but worthy of a place.
Overall the GTS 250 card does a few things in the market. First, it really minimize the 4850’s on their sheer performance to power equation; although I don’t know if the price premium of the list price about is warranted, especially if you’re not one to leave it running 24/7. Kudos to Nvidia they really get a lot of mileage from the turning down the core and memory clock speeded at idle. Though bear in mind previous attempts at this resulted in less than seamless hand-off when moving from idle (non-demanding state) into a graphically challenging upswing. Secondly, with the 4870 512Mb price reductions we all came out winners. A GTS 250 isn’t at a 4870 512Mb performance level; however what it does do it does with much more efficiency. Overall for those that really hold true to Nvidia, this is a card worth serious consideration. I liked the GTX+ when the price was right so what not to like about a GTX 250.
Where I have issue is “green team marketing” principles and their normal games… past and present. Why did they sit on releasing this for so long? Other than the PCB being smaller it wasn’t all that different than the GTX+, why did they even do the + version? The marketing speak (today) is so they could fix the whole naming matrix, why where they compelled to confuse us for 6 months longer? Why didn’t they say, “we did the die-shrink”, so it’s a great point/reason to no-longer perpetuate the confusion. Making the name change at that point was the right time and place, everything 2XX would be a 55Nm. Then today (if they couldn’t get the technical issues figured out for the smaller PCB, power and routing all the 256-Bit bus lanes) they could’ve released this latest revision as the GTS+ 250 that would’ve had much more merit.

So,yes they're telling you this has little to no merit in the correlation of data for most all the extra cards they show on their graphs... Confusion Rules.
I still don't get when they say, "everyone knows that video card performance improves 15-20% with each driver release" was that a sarcastic reference or are they being factual?
What you see is a SUPERCLOCKED GTS 250 with new drivers against a 20Mhz OC 4850 1Gb and latest released ATI 9point2 (ben's stink'n filter). So they're honestly saying only those two are valid the rest is fluff. |
