So, why is this card still on sale? It's a 4 year old budget card, with no HD video acceleration and no DX10 support.

And, why is it selling for $56?

I doubt anyone upgrading an old AGP based system cares much about HD or DX10, they're just trying to delay the inevitable by replacing a failed AGP card they already had. Even so $50 is too much for an agp x1300.

Actually AGP card can still be useful. The cheap HD 4350, 3450, 2450 in that prefer order can still shine as an HTPC card solution (if they can be found in low profile form). All of these cards available in AGP form.

People have used them with pathetic CPUs (sempron 2800) and no stutter with 1080p playback.

Unless they're turning an old computer into a HTPC.

Why build a new computer when you've got an old one laying around that's just one cheap upgrade away from playing HD video?

Unless they're turning an old computer into a HTPC.

Why build a new computer when you've got an old one laying around that's just one cheap upgrade away from playing HD video?

Because those old computers like one Sempron based use more power at idle = higher electric bill and more noise.

Because as I've tried to remind you over and over, video card HD acceleration DOES NOT WORK on all files someone will probably want to play so the CPU MUST be capable even if video can be offloaded to GPU much of the time.

Because HTPC won't need upgraded as often as a power-user's desktop system, we're not going to see higher than 1080p HD content for quite a while, so in comes the reliability factor of using old parts for something that could be suitable for a decade of use otherwise.

Because the cost difference really isn't much. Even if you find a $30 card instead of $50, today you can get a board with IGP having HD acceleration AND a CPU capable of it in software for about $80, and since HTPC doesn't need much memory, since 1GB would be enough, considering past DDR2 deals we can call that expense close to $0.

Actually if one is content with XP or XP MCE, even 512MB would suffice for a HTPC. Come to think of it my first HTPC running XP started out with 256MB and with some unnecessary services disabled it had no problem though this was before the HD era so that was the only reason it's CPU was suitable.

There seems to be a continual trend in your suggestions to ignore all the detriments of the cheapest option, leaving people misinformed. Generally we come here looking for DEALS, to save money on what we want to do, not to continually have problems just to be cheap. Please remember that, and the old saying "if it's worth doing it's worth doing right".

How do you even call yourself a human? You spew utter garbage along with compwiz17... You surely would never fit into a normal web site, hence you come here and feel like you own the place

I will never visit this stupid fricking website again because of you two lonely ball lickers.

Fuck off and die you stupid losers.
