I bought an Acer Aspire 5102 a little over a year ago. The first issue I had with it was minor, but I had to send it back to them. They returned it 2 weeks later and it was fine.
Then I kept getting a Blue Screen of Death. 5 subsequent returns via mail (albeit at their expense), I finally convinced them it would be cheaper for them to replace it. But it took 2 months for the replacement to come in.
I also have another 5202 and it works great. Maybe I got a lemon? But their service is awful customer service. You get what you pay for, perhaps?

I've got two Acer laptops both in the Aspire 3000 series. I've had them for over a year and the other for over two years. I bought both of them from walmart.com for crazy low prices. One laptop had a power adapter failure after about a year, but I would call that random failure.
My prior laptop was a Compaq and something else before that.
I never buy extended warranty on anything - except laptops. If a laptop fails the repair is more complex because of size and parts are expensive and proprietary. Walmart had the best prices on extended warranty wen I bought.
So, Acer laptops ... yeah, they are fine. |

| The only major problem would be that ACER is one of the only companies that require you to send them your computer for repairs. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month depending on the problem. I would say your purchase mainly depends on how long you can afford to wait for repairs if you end up with a dreaded lemon. |

| I've never heard of this brand before. I try to stray from brands of electronics or things that are more costly that don't have a familiar ring at all. I will tell you though that I have had a compaq since the summer of 2005 and I am still using it today. In fact it is my husband and I's main computer and we use it constantly. I got it from Office Depot for like $500 It is a great computer. :) happy hunting! |
