Works fine, last a long time.
I had four rooms done up with converters in each room, all free, including install.
Since dumped the dish and went with cable/internet combo. No more life with the Slowski's for internet. At the cost of about $130 a month. Ugh. |

| I signed up for Dish Network last year then took the day out of work to have them come out to my house and install the dish. They never showed. Even when I called them at 6PM, (this was in the fall) it was dark out and they still insisted they would be right there. When I asked if they would really climb onto my roof and install it in the dark they still insisted yes. Finally 8PM rolled around and I got them to admit they weren't coming. When I asked why they said they were coming all this time they said it was a "computer error". I asked to speak to a manager but could hardly understand his english. He was Indian and I think the only two words he knew were "Yes Sir". I ordered mine from Dishnetwork.com and not allstat but it was enough to convince me that the people at Dish Network are a bunch of morons. BEWARE! |

It's pretty decent, but it usually looks a bit grainy to me when I see it at other people's houses. Too many trees in the way for me to use it. _________________ On August 6, 2009, nuisance es gordo said to me: "You ARE superior to everyone on the planet" |

| I was a directv customer, went to dish because of a "deal". Their customer service was absolutely horrible. Ended up canceling the service and going back to directv. Directv's customer service has always done exceptionally well IMO. Dish's... not so much. |

| I had the same suspicions as #5. I have DirecTV and their customer service has been tops. |

| Well, for the Visa gift card you have to be a new customer, so that's out of the deal for me. I wonder what other fine print there is. |

I'm coming near the end of my contract, and can't want to dump them. For me, the issues are:
Signed up with HD as part of the contract. The contract was for 18 months, but it only took them two months to double my HD fees up to $20. Very bait and switch if you ask me.
Loses sattelite if particularly severe thunderstorms move through (thus I wouldn't even consider satellite service in the midwest if something else is availalbe - though I understand that often nothign else is).
They are happy to tell you that you are getting TNT, TBS, FX, etc, but they don't tell you that there is only one feed for the entire nature. Thus, if TNT tells you your show is on at 8, realize that the time is Eastern time (obviously not an issue if you're in the east coast). This means you had better figure on using your DVR extra time, because the show you want may be airing right about the time you get off work (even though it said it was at 8PM, it's 5PM west coast time).
My receiver regularly complains of a critical failure in the switch when flipping channels. It's easy to work around (just cancel or switch channels away and back), but very annoying.
Most of my peeve with them is that I feel that I got something other than what I was told I was buying, and I don't stay a customer with those kind of companies. I very well may stay satellite, but, if I do, I'll be going over to DirectTV. |

Dish appears pretty good. I've been with directv since they started in 1995, but now they require 18-24 months and you still have to pay for leasing their HD DVR. Too expensive to not own it, they will not deal with you, its either sign or go.
Went to Comcast for cable, internet and phone, no agreement, month to month, six months for $75 (was a deal that maybe gone) and after that, we'll see.
Dish looks realy good. Got it for my dad for Christmas. Good picture, good service, they were there on time, did the whole install, showed how to work the system, then they were gone. The installer did try his best to get dad to sign long term agreement, but he somehow abstained.
Nice programming and HD looks real good. There two room system looks goods, one box, two or more feeds.

Have fun figuring out how much it will actually cost after various fees. You may not know until you're locked into an 18-month contract
From the Terms & Conditions:
| Quote: | AllSat Early Termination of Service Fee
You agree to a monthly programming package . and agree to not terminate such service for any reason during your 18 (eighteen) month service commitment. If service is terminated or downgraded below DishFAMILY or DishLATINO prior to eighteen months, or if you elect to use DISH Network's "Dish Pause" service prior to six months, you agree to pay AllSat a termination fee of $295.
Default
In the event you default on your obligations under this agreement, you authorize AllSat to charge your credit card $295.00. In the event you contest this amount or the charge is dishonored or rejected for any reason, AllSat shall have the right to report the matter to national credit reporting agencies and may pursue any other legal remedy. You further agree to pay any 3rd party collection costs. |

| I've had Dish and currently have DirectTV. Customer service is definitely better with DirectTV than Dish. Service/package pricing is about the same, depends on which channels specifically you're looking for. I'd be weary of this long of a contract, may want to look into a guarantee of quality as a back-out so as not to be stuck with a $300 18 month threat. |

I've been having dishnetwok for 3 weeks now. Signed up thru SatelliteSales.com (similar to AllSat). I got the appointment a week after I signed up. The guy was to show up before noon, but after several calls turned up at 4 in the evening. I think these are contractors employed by DishNetwork, not by AllSat or SatelliteSales. I signed up for 2 HD connections and 1 SD. The guy said he had the equipment for only 2 SD and 1 HD and the Dishnetwork CS might have screwed up. After several calls and waiting for a week, the installation was complete. The week after I got the bill for $465 !!. Called up the Dishnetwork CS. It's not one of those call center folks from the third world. A sweet speaking local. It took 45 minutes to convince her that it's supposed to be free installation and all I owe is 2 months fee of $100. 2 days after I checked and found that it' changed by $149..Another half an hour with another sweet voice; she agreed to everything still the same after 2 days. Same with the third attempt, they simply agree to what you say but wouldn’t do anything. Eventually on the fourth try I sent a a formal email to the cs. Never got a reply for that email yet but the figure got corrected. 3 Accounting mistakes in 6 days, funny not even once the amount was less than what I owed.
As for the quality of satellite TV service, couple of times I saw the signals going off during the snow. But otherwise the quality is really great, especially the HD. IMHO, it's good but pay attention to the bills. (I did not sign up for auto deduction from credit card account ) |
