this screen is garbage. the 20" non-wide aspect is the only way to go. Don't waste your money on this piece, spend the extra dough and get the normal screen. it has more viewing space and a higher, standard resolution which equates to better gaming, and viewing.

Can't go wrong on the wide or the non-wide... However if you do more gaming I would stick to the non-wide.. More office work or movie viewing, you may benefit from the wider screen..

I've got two of these and they work just fine for gaming. Especially when the games (which most good ones do) support wide aspect.

#6, ya, what are you playing the games at 1240X 1240? that is a huge hit in viewing a resolution. but the money has already been wasted so not much you can do about it now.

Get wide and non-wide and run them together - I've got a $212 analog Dell FP next to a $380 FPW2005 and it's great

    # 7 are you on crack? You run this at 1680 x 1050, and every game that i play supports that res. This monitor is absolutely beautiful, and i would buy another one if this would go below $400.

    # 12     Posted 7:49 AM PST 1/31 by BoxingNut83 - Email: N/A - IP: Hidden

I think what #7 is trying to say (albeitly unintelligently) is that in order for your games to not look like shit on an LCD, you have to run them in its native resolution, which is extremely high for these monitors.

I paid $402 after tax and shipping last year... plays BF2 at 1680 x 1050 and it's friggin incredible. Water graphics alone with my 7800GT make me stare at the water... even got killed once watching it. haha

#4, #5 are wrong, this thing ROCKS. Widescreen is MUCH BETTER for gaming and the 1680 resolution really shows alot of the game from side to side, which is imperative when driving around in BF2 tanks, flying, jeeps, etc. Not too mention, F.E.A.R. looks amazing on this thing as well. I HIGHLY recommend the widescreen for gamers and it's a good deal at this price. Also consider that this is the last day of Dell's 4th quarter so you may not see another price drop until late April.

I own this monitor as well and have posted comments on it before. I paid about $370 after tax/shipping last year.

I really do like the widescreen aspect of this monitor. I use this on my gaming machine (and a regular 17" LCD on my server.) Of course you do have to "hack" some games to get it to work with the widescreen resolutions, but IMHO it is really great. A lot of the newer games support widescreen right out of the box (WoW, HL2...) and the games that don't, you just modify a thing or two and you're running it in whatever rez you want.

//I've been playing Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Warrior Within and haved them hacked to run widescreen with the UniWS program found at www.widescreengamingforum.com. Cool thing is that the 3rd installment of the game "The Two Thrones" has native support for widescreen! (I've been enjoying the series so far... and it's the type of game that I usually don't play - I usually stick to FPS's.)

    #14,
I am not surprised you think it "rocks" you own one. why would you like to feel like an idiot after spending so much $. but the truth is you get less viewing space on the wide screen. They are okay, but not the best concering the 20" level.

    # 17     Posted 10:58 AM PST 1/31 by dragon42 - Email: N/A - IP: Hidden

Well sure I get less viewing space, I'm not an idiot who doesn't do their research before hand, but the 20" 2001FP costs at least $100 dollars more IIRC. Everyone has their own opinion on things and I was trying to be as nice about it as possible. I didn't once say that the regular 20" is crap or that the widescreen is the best. Also, if I weren't satisfied with the product why in the world would I keep it?

//Oh yeah, why put quotes around the word "rocks" when I never said it in the first place? That was number #13 who was saying this was much better for gaming. I never once said anything of the sort.

Well, forget about my last post. It seems as though #16 was talking to #14...which really doesn't make much sense, does it? (I mistakingly thought he was responding in regards to my post.)

I am not responding to any of the earlier posts unless they happen to have addressed whatever it is that I am saying.
I have one of these monitors in my office even as I write this. It is not unpacked, however, because it is part of the packaged desktop computer I bought from Dell last week. The two boxes arrived today. So far, I have no complaint about the monitor or the computer. I feel that I got a very good deal on the Dell computer model 9150 for $1146 with an upcoming $100 rebate. I got a gig of ram. I got 160 gig hard drive with 7200 speed. I got this monitor with 12ms response time. All that!!!
Whoa. I'm an accountant and I must return to work now. This was a refreshing diversion.

Mr. Gee, let me hear more from you once you know what the hell you are talking about. Thanks for the IP too...

I have a 19" Viewsonic at work that I can play BF2 on and it shows alot less screen than my 20" widescreen does. Don't be jealous like #14... you boys don't have one and just have to bash those of us who do. This site is the worse for annoying little douchebags like the both of you. Once you stop using your CRT's, then you can talk... biatches.

I just called 1-800-915-3355 and talked with promotions and told them tat a few months ago the price was down to this low, and he asked his manager and dropped it another $60 and free S/H

    Subtotal = $374.25
    390.86

    #22,
true you will see less with a 19" lcd than a 20 wide aspect. But when you compare a the wide aspect to the normal screen, if have more viewing space and pixels.
    do the math....
    1680 X 1050 = 1764000

    normal screen...
    1600 X 1200= 1920000

    1920000-1764000= 156000 more pixels

    do the math!!
Don't worry when I do upgrade it won't be a wide apsect cus its 50 bucks more.

the 20 inch is 471.75 at dell home. If anyone is looking to spend alot on a screen look into spending a bit more. If you ask me, spend the extra, 70 and get the better one.

    # 25     Posted 6:49 PM PST 1/31 by Jasonzo6 - Email: N/A - IP: Hidden

Sure there are more pixels, but the objective is to get as CLOSE to the people I am trying to kill while still having the widest view possible. So from a GAMING standpoint, the wide screen is better. 1600 x 1200 just makes the newbs smaller and harder to kill... in the end, I still get 80 more pixels per line with my monitor without sacrificing the larger image. In BF2, it's all about left and right, who cares about up and down.

Thanks for confirming you have a CRT, I already know #14 wants to upgrade his.

    # 26     Posted 9:51 PM PST 1/31 by wlcrm - Email: N/A - IP: Hidden

the 2005 has about 5% fewer pixels than the 2001. But its more than 5% cheaper. So... if your benchmark is (for some bizzare reason) pixels per dollar, the 2005 is a better deal.

I'd rather have the 2005 for the ability to look at 2 8x11 pages side by side, and for watching movies.

    # 27     Posted 8:15 AM PST 2/1 by Jasonzo6 - Email: N/A - IP: Hidden

Yeah, movies do ROCK on my widescreen. It's just another added benefit to having it, for gaming AND movies. Who gives a shinola about how many pixels, that's like buying a new TV today and getting 4:3 format, your OVERALL resolution on a widescreen movie is SMALLER. Sorry MrGee, you lost this one...

I did the same thing as #23 and was able to "convince" them to give me a $60 off coupon. (Thanks GeorgJetson!) Unfortunately, I have to pay sales tax, as a North Carolina resident, but the final breakdown for the 2005FPW with a 5 year warranty was:
    $471.00 - $60.00 = $411 X 7% sales tax + free shipping = $439.78

The 3 year warranty would be:
    $434.25 - $60.00 = $374.25 X 7% sales tax + free shipping = $400.41

For those of you lucky enough not to have to pay sales tax, you'll save yourself between $25 and $30 more than the poor souls that have to pay sales tax.
    5 yr warranty - $471.00 - $60 = $411.00 (no sales tax)
    3 yr warranty - $434.35 - $60 = $374.25 (no sales tax)

This 25% off select LCD Display offer ends tonight at 11 PM CST ...
