The LEGO Movie is Real and Assembling for 2014
After a lifetime as an incredibly fun and creative toy/brick that unites people across cultures, languages and oceans, LEGOs are finally headed for the big screen. Appearing now in teaser trailer form, The LEGO Movie has quite simply broken my mind. This may have something to do with the LEGO bricks undoubtedly lodged in my brain from various childhood play sets, but still.
To be clear, the LEGO landscape is full of hits and misses. There are the excellent Traveler’s Tales video games and the endlessly innovative fan made YouTube clips of LEGO in motion. On the other hand, there is the failed MMO, LEGO Universe, and the awkward Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
Nevertheless, The LEGO Movie – helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are responsible for both Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street – seems to have the right stuff. But never mind those awesome guys. This flick has both Morgan Freeman AND Batman. No movie ever made in the history of western civilization that has both Morgan Freeman and Batman has been anything short of supremely exceptional.
Don’t just take my word for it, check out this synopsis from Warner Bros.: “The Original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously under-prepared.”
Just wow. February can’t come soon enough.
