Deals of the Week… Going, Going, Almost Gone! (9/13/13 Edition)

By on September 13, 2013

Most great deals don’t last that long on Ben’s Bargains. That’s why signing up for Deal Alerts is your best bet (and The Driver recommends them).

Here are 10 deals of the week (Sept. 7 to Sept. 13) that you really liked or we thought were pretty good… and even better, are actually still valid, but not for long:

1) Smartphone Years — Is That Like Dog Years?

Earlier this week, Apple introduced the cheaper iPhone 5C for $99, putting it squarely in the mid-range of Apple’s iPhone price points. As a result, the 2-year-old iPhone 4S (ancient by phone standards) was sent down the pecking order. That means the iPhone 4S is now free on a 2-year contract. Plus, it can run iOS 7 when the new system rolls out on September 18th.

Expiration: Next September.

2) Get Smarter for Freer

Amazon currently has several Boundless digital textbooks available as free Kindle downloads. You can read them on a Kindle or any device with a Kindle app (i.e. PC, Mac, Android or iOS). The Boundless slogan is, ”Better than  your assigned textbook.” It’s at least freer.

Expiration: Limited time.

3) Be That Guy

A lot of Oakley shades are on sale right now at the Oakley Vault for prices far lower than what you’d find at 6pm or Amazon, like these Limited Edition Oakley GP-75 Frogskins (below) for $70 shipped (about $60 less than other sellers).

If you don’t want to be that guy, Puma’s got 40% off the entire site with a coupon code.

Expiration: Limited time.

4) Summer Is Not Over… Technically

eBay’s Fashion Vault is throwing a Summer Savings Finale with discounts of up to 70% off over 700 home and garden items.  Well-known sellers like Kitchenaid, Cooking.com, Buydig and Wayfair are offering prices lower than what you’ll see at Amazon.

Speaking of home products, you can get 20% off small appliances and other select home items at Best Buy with a coupon code.

Expiration: 9/18.

5) Free (Good) Software

Choose from one or more of Ashampoo’s five software suites for free: Burning Studio 2012, Photo Commander 9, Snap 5, SlideshowStudio 2012 and WinOptimizer 2012 (5 downloads max). Normally $50, Burning Studio 12 got an excellent review from PC World.

Expiration: Limited time.

The_Hobbit_Extended6) Proof that Longer is Cheaper

Warner Bros. Shop is currently taking up to 70% off Blu-ray and DVD sets. With a $5 off $25 code and free shipping on orders over $25, you can find some good prices that are less than Amazon’s, like the Hobbit: Extended Edition Blu-ray (right) for $22 shipped ($29 at Amazon).

That’s right, an Extended Edition of The Hobbit (actually 13 more minutes, but still).

Expiration: 9/16.

7) Free Redbox Rental, Yay!

This one pops up from time to time, but you can’t beat a free DVD for one night or 30 cents for a Blu-ray.

Expiration: Limited time.

8) Rare Apple Discount

For two days at Best Buy, you can pick up a 2013 Macbook Air 2013 in different sizes and flavors for $50 to $100 off than what you’ll find anywhere else. This is the best price you’ll see until Black Friday, and it’s unlikely that it’ll go any lower even then.

Expiration: 9/14.

9) 50% off is Sweet

Groupon’s got a $40 online credit at Derailed.com for $20. Derailed is an offshoot of Sierra Trading post and sells discount-priced outdoor gear and apparel. Caveat: shipping is not included in the credit.

Expiration: 9/15.

10) Tablets on a Budget

The Adorama eBay store has brand-new 1st Gen 32GB Google Nexus 7 tablets (ASUS-1B32) (below left) for $160 with free shipping. That’s about $40 less than what you’ll find elsewhere. The just-released 2nd Gen model sells for $229.

If you don’t specifically want a Nexus, you can find the comparable and popular Hisense Sero 7 Pro Quad-Core Android 4.2 Tablet (below right) for $129 from Walmart.

Expiration: Limited time.
