    Seems like a bad idea being directly WIFI controlled. What would that be like with a house full of these? Not to mention outlets and other special devices. Do you really want that load constantly on your router in addition to all the normal loads you put on it. I would look at X10/Insteon or similar that use the house wiring and/or communicate mesh style directly with each other. X10/Insteon is the cheapest way to home automation but not necessarily the best depending on your needs. You can still interface with these systems via WIFI if you want to but that's different than routing everything over it. I try to keep stuff off my router and out of the frequencies it uses for the best performance on things I care about more.
