The stars determine your "level", their levels correspond with colors.
For example, the first level is "green", and the benefits are:

I assume the higher levels have better rewards, but you really have to be a daily Starbucks drinker to make it worth while. Otherwise, I doubt it is worth their time.
Their iPhone app has weekly free games/music downloads which is awesome. They are good apps too, for instance, I got the sleep cycle app for free and it is usually $.99. Not bad!

Try a different browser, I used chrome and it worked fine..
