Note that this is not a GPS. This is a heads-up display which works with a gps app on your phone. I'm not sure if the app you need costs anything. A review I read said that it did cost money, but a quick look on the play store showed a free app from Garmin that might work.
It would have been a bargain if this unit were also a GPS, or if it would work with existing GPS. If you have to use the gps app that means you're using data, and in some area where reception isn't great, this HUD will not be any helpful.
I was thinking about buying one of these the last time it went "on sale". I had to look no further than the reviews: amazon.com/Garmin-Head-Up-Dashboard-Windshield-Projector/product-reviews/B00DUYKY40/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1" target="_blank">http://www..com/Garmin-Head-Up-Dashboard-Windshield-Projector/product-reviews/B00DUYKY40/ref=dpx_acr_txt?showViewpoints=1
This one sums things up rather well: amazon.com/review/R3DHJK1A5SZRB3/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R3DHJK1A5SZRB3" target="_blank">http://www..com/review/R3DHJK1A5SZRB3/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R3DHJK1A5SZRB3
tl;dr: It is crippled by the $50 app that is uses, disappointment is a general consensus.

I use copilot and it stores the maps on the SD card.
North East US + South East US + Mid West US takes about 2G
But I doubt it is compatible with this Garmin
