Excellent specs but no way would I buy one now. First off, it's way too expensive, especially without the keyboard. And judging by the way previous versions have plummeted in price, I wouldn't expect this to remain above $600 for all that long.
Excellent! My wife wanted a Surface tablet so she could edit documents on the train to and from her office. I'm also looking to a Surface Pro so I can run VCDS on my Volkswagen. We have a lot of Apple products, but they can't do everything.
WARNING: This is not a laptop "replacement" because frankly, I CANNOT USE IT ON MY LAP!
Otherwise, it's a masterpiece. Microsoft did a great job fitting high-end hardware in a small form factor. I would buy it if I could somehow use it with the screen supported by a flat base instead of a stand.
Interesting how they tried to pull the price down by adding a very low end CPU choice (i3). It's great hardware, but when you look at it closely, it's a bad tablet (you need "Metro" software to use it as a tablet, and there is virtually none, plus it's very heavy and bulky for a tablet), and it's a bad laptop (you can't use it on your lap, and this floppy, poor quality keyboard and trackpad is a problem).
I think the choice of a 12" screen demonstrates that they don't even believe it's an acceptable tablet substitute. Another problem is that it can't be taken apart to upgrade the components. Want more RAM or a bigger SSD? You have to pay Microsoft's exorbitant prices up front, because you won't be able to upgrade later yourself. Oh, and you're stuck with Windows. It won't allow you to boot Linux, for instance. Looks like a great product, but I think it's a dud. At least it looks like they've canned RT, nobody will cry for that sad POS.
I have the Surface 2 (not Pro). The hardware is 'decent', but the battery life sucks and over 2 years into the device and still no decent apps other than Office.
Just tried the PROMO CODE on a pre-order for the $999 version and does NOT WORK - it looks like the Promo code is for "signing up to the Microsoft Store" but does NOT work on pre-orders?

Thank you!
