The Evilness of XBOX ONE, illustrations and memes

If you haven’t heard yet, the gaming community is in a growing uproar after Microsoft clarified comments yesterday regarding persistent online requirements, digital rights management, used games policies and Kinect requirements. In summary:

1. Your XBOX ONE has to check in with Microsoft’s servers at least once every 24 hours in order to continue to play offline. If you are playing on a friends console, that time period is reduced to one hour. In Microsoft’s own words “Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.”
2. Regarding the transfer of used games to a new party, Microsoft is putting game transfer rights in the hands of the publisher. If a publisher does allow it, Microsoft has two requirements: “You can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.”
3. When it comes to the Kinect, it cannot be disconnected. Microsoft said the user will have control over privacy settings and will be alerted how audio / video data is being used by the Kinect. Microsoft also claims that the data won’t leave the XBOX ONE unless authorized by the user.

   Either Microsoft will change a lot before launch or they will give up an significant percentage of the market with this console. I personally was a devoted Xbox 360 owner and have decided that I will not under any circumstances allow a Xboner in my house.

     Yeah, I’m curious to see how the general public will react. But if Microsoft is already pissing off the early adopters, it doesn’t bode well.
