I wonder if they'd work better put into conventional winter windshield fluid, than the fluid alone. Then again, usually using MOAR fluid alone, works better too.
According to the MSDS for these, what they do is raise the water pH. You could probably achieve the same result for lower cost per application using pool or wine making marketed, soda ash pH raiser. It's about $12 for 5 lbs on

Obviously useless in low temperatures, they were also not much better than water for getting grime or insects off the windshield.
