Meh. Harbor Freight gives these things away with a coupon and a five dollar purchase and their regular price is lower than this.

Youre absolutely right about HFT.

Why does one need a magnetic steel bowl anyway? Why not just use a plastic bowl? Are your screws and nuts going to "jump out of the bowl"? Nope, unless you are on a rodeo horse.

Have this, use it all the time. It's very handy to attach to a metal area in a vehicle engine bay so it stays put while you remove or reinstall fasteners. A plastic bowl is too easily knocked then fasteners fall into the abyss of the engine. Might not be as big a deal to retrieve dropped fasteners on older vehicles that have more room under the hood.

Interesting that they show the two different designs. Mine is the one with Craftsman stamped into the bottom, but the finish is much better than on that one in the picture.

The free one at HF is the smaller 4" size if I'm not mistaken. Their 6" is $3.99:

I'd consider it a wash which to buy, depends on which store you were already driving by so pickup is more convenient, except that the sale is over so now it's $10.

I have all three size versions of the HF version and they are great. Small and middle were free, and the large came with a nice handle.

Happened across my 4" free Harbor Freight bowl today. Not bad for free, but junk compared to the Craftsman.

It's thinner metal, weaker magnet, and scratched up pretty easily because they tried to make it a mirror finish... or that plus softer metal too. I don't own the larger HF bowl so can't directly compare it, except in pictures it looks like the same metal as the smaller one, BUT KMart's left picture of the two styles they sell also looks like that while I have the one pictured on the right.
